I Love You Anak eBook Series

Ampon, ampon, ampon! Ampon ka lang!  I’m sure this would sound very familiar to you if you belong to my (or an older) generation.  Stories of orphans and adopted children maltreated and unaccepted by society were often the central themes of afternoon and primetime series of yore.  Fortunately, today’s society has become much more welcoming and has lessened the stigma of adoption.  In the hopes of eradicating the stigma of adoption in our culture, the I Love You Anak campaign was launched.

I Love You Anak Campaign

I Love You Anak was launched by the DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) and ICAB (Inter-Country Adoption Board) to encourage adoptive families to become adoption ambassadors thereby addressing the stigma of adoption in the Philippines.  Since its launch, various events have been staged to give adoptive families a venue to share their touching stories and to openly declare their deep love for their children.  I Love You Anak also receives support from celebrities such as Ogie Alcasid who sung the I Love You Anak song.

Stories from the Heart

Knowing that storytelling is an effective tool to send a message across, DSWD and ICAB has partnered with McCann Philippines to launch seven eBooks all written and illustrated for Filipino adoptive families.  These books can be effective tools to introduce children to the idea of adoption.

ILYA eBooks

I was able to read all seven eBooks at www.iloveyouanak.com.   I love all seven of them but Destiny’s Delivery and Baby Circle are my favorites.  How would you feel if it took 52 aliens, a thunder, and a cloud to bring you to your family? I know it would make me feel utterly special!  And this is just what Destiny’s Delivery wants every child to feel.  Baby Circle would make any child who feels different understand just how perfectly he fits into his adoptive family.

Mummy and Hunnybunny, Juana Bee, A Room Full of Gifts, Case of the Missing Smile, and Juju Looloo and Baby Wuwu were all written  for children – and us – to understand adoption and to give us a peek of the conversations that happen inside adoptive families.

Through these eBooks, children born of the heart can understand just how special they are.  What child would not feel loved knowing just how the universe conspired to bring his family together? Moreover, many families can be encourage to open their homes to adoptive kids.

Hopefully, no child will ever hear ampon, ampon, ampon ka lang when all they hear is a resounding I love you, Anak. I love you!
