Easy Twists to Everyday Sarap with Family Meals

Not everyone can boast of exceptional kitchen skills. If you are one of those who’s not a chef-in-the-making, there’s nothing to fret about. You do not have to be a kitchen gourmet to serve up delicious meals for your family. You also do not have to have a huge budget to do this. This is what Sarap with Family hosted by Jennylyn Mercado aims to show its viewers. We were given a chance to pay them a set visit as they prepared for the second season of this practical cooking show.

The warm welcome that our group was greeted with was no different from what audiences will feel as they watch the show. Jennylyn whips up delicious meals as she chit-chats with guests much like some of us do in our own kitchens. The Filipino kitchen, after all, is considered to be one of the hubs of interaction in the house. The casual conversations, Jennylyn shares, are what make cooking more fun and interesting. She also finds inspiration in the personal stories shared by her guests who are often friends of hers. The reparte, she admits, are candid and “light lang, kwentuhan lang talaga.”

When she started the first season of Sarap with Family, Jennylyn realized that cooking is “ang dali lang pala.” In fact, this kitchen newbie has not had any serious accidents in the kitchen. Cooking is made even easier with ingredients like CDO’s Ulam Burger and Sea Quest Tuna Flakes, which are featured in a lot of the recipes in the show’s second season. The process of cooking used in the recipes are very Filipino. The creativity of the production team, however, has given classics like Kare-Kare and Laing a twist.

We got to sample some of these “twisted” dishes. The Kaldereta with CDO Liver Spread was first on the table. The traditional flavors were all accounted for. The liver spread mixed into the sauce gave it a deeper flavor. An interesting Gising-Gising was next. This version of a Filipino spicy veggie dish was taken a notch higher with the addition of Sea Quest Tuna Flakes. The flavors and textures went well together. Two other meat and veggie dishes were served: the Eggplant Frittata with Ulam Burger and the Nutri-Burger Picadillo.  Both were equally delicious. The aioli that came as a dip for the Frittata was a pleasant surprise.

Taking off from the baon and kiddie dishes from the last season, this season highlights the versatility of the CDO Ulam Burger. Now available in the All Purpose Beef Mix variant, homemakers have more flexibility in using them in different dishes. “Ulam Burger is more than just palaman… it can be cooked in other ways, not just frying,” said CDO’s brand representative.

Aside from the interesting variations in the recipes another great thing about the new line up of Sarap with Family recipes is that they are budget-friendly and easy to prepare. These recipes are perfect for those are looking for delicious yet practical dishes to serve to their families. Sarap With Family is really “where great dishes bring the family closer together.”
